Abstract
Navgeet is a compound term formed by combining the words ‘nav’ (new) and ‘geet’ (song). Literally, it means “a new song,” but in literary usage the word nav conveys a deeper meaning. Here, “new” does not merely imply novelty in terms of time, but rather freshness in terms of quality and essence. Over time, the traditional geet evolved into what came to be known as navgeet.
Navgeet carries elements of regional culture, often drawing from rural dialects and folk melodies. It reflects contemporary consciousness while expressing emotions and sentiments through lyrical rhythm and heartfelt resonance.
